Ingredients

For the steak bites

  • 1 pound steak (sirloin or flank) Flank steak is leaner and a good option as well.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Low-sodium soy sauce works well if you're watching salt.
  • 1/4 cup honey Can swap for maple syrup or brown sugar.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds brightness and depth.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced Optional, adjust according to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Can add more for extra flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adjust for taste.
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped For garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the steak into bite-sized pieces, about 1-inch, cutting against the grain for tenderness.
  • In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper. Whisk until glossy.
  • Marinate the steak pieces in the mixture for at least 15 minutes; 30–60 minutes is better if time allows.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the marinated steak, cooking until browned and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Work in batches if needed to avoid steaming the steak.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of water. For meal prep, double the steak and freeze portions for quick dinners. Adjust the seasoning for kids if needed.
