Pastry and Filling

  • 1 sheet sheet of store-bought puff pastry Rolled sheet, super convenient
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened Gives a dreamy tang
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar Adjust based on sweetness preference
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract For flavor enhancement
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced Use ripe but firm berries
  • 1 large egg, beaten For egg wash
  • Flour For dusting surface

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  • In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each heart pastry.
  • Top with sliced strawberries.
  • Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling and brush with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Thaw puff pastry in the fridge overnight for best results. Assemble but don’t egg-wash, cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours, then brush and bake fresh.
